I have similar problems repaired by lightly sanding the damaged area to the edges of the old target spring, until it gets a smooth transition.
Then find a piece of the same type of wood, the picture is finished, and the examination of similar passages in the bands of satin too small to match the original stain. This part can be a little frustrating, but with the patients and in one place a little mix in the place to get just right, you can. Then apply your new job only to dry the damaged area, even if the party the right to lightly sand the entire top need until you have all the shine away. (If the stain is not the right combination at this point you have to strip and refinish the entire top.)

Then remove the sanding dust and apply a thin layer of a glossy or matte polyurethane coating to spit. Polyurethane is a mixture of half alcohol half. (Solvent)
Allow to dry for 24 hours, easily remove sand, dust and a layer of polyurethane heavier than desired, undiluted.

You have to sand that went all the colors, then Restaino color. After match the original stain is dry, a varnish to seal and make shine. If is only the beginning, you can buy sanding block and sand with a sandpaper. Then hand.Start of gravel is medium-grain and finish with a fine grit.Make sure that there is a wood, no particle board or MDF with veneer attached to it. If you need to make sure the sand is very easy for you not to sand through the veneer.

Get a sander (finishing Jitterbug) and sand the damaged area. Select the damaged area with a pencil stripes on certain points that you think should be treated in the vicinity. When dry, if you are a party Resande then you are applying. If not, you may need to sand the entire top and find the nearest location. The wood can still be corrected!
